CCTU-DWPD LAUNCHES WORKS VOLUNTEER SERVICE PROGRAMME
On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the Directorate of Works and Physical Development (DWPD) of Cape Coast Technical University under the auspices of the Vice Chancellor Professor Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye in collaboration with the CCTU Green Club launched the Works Volunteer Service (WVS) programme with a call on the University community to use their energies and abilities to drive a ‘Clean and Green’ CCTU.
The Directorate of Works and Physical Development, Dr. Stephen Agyefi-Mensah, in his remarks, noted that the WVS programme will provide an established framework to reform volunteerism in the University campus. He explained that the programme will streamline cleaning and greening activities within the university space to ensure human resources are maximised to address energy conservation and environmental pollution challenges in the University. Dr. Stephen Agyefi-Mensah, addressing members of the University community at the fountain area, where the launch took place mentioned that the WVS programmes is grouped under five (5) modules; (Green and Clean Module, Energy Conservation Module, Clean Water and Sanitation Module, Built and Civil Module and Campus Beautification Module). He stressed that the WVS programme would help to ensure no willing volunteer is denied the opportunity to serve their university. It would also provide the space for volunteers to perfect their craft. Vice Chancellor Professor Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye in his remarks applauded the Directorate of Works and Physical Development for the laudable initiative.
He called for intentional institutional excellence, reiterating the call for all members of the University community to help beautify the University campus. The event had in attendance, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kweku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, some faculty members, students, patrons and other stakeholders. It featured the distribution of bins, sticking of green and clean CCTU posters and cleaning of the Octagon and University Clinic area. The programme which was anticipated to engage the entire university populace, already had about Eighty-Five (85) subscribers. It is themed “Green, Clean, Energy and Water Efficient CCTU, one space at a time”.
