CCTU Hosts Maiden Career Fair, Connecting Students with Future Careers

The Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), in a quest to prepare students to meet the expectations of the fast-evolving industry and commerce, organised its first-ever Career Fair, on June 17, 2025.

The Fair, which was themed “Tech for Tomorrow: Innovative and Sustainable Careers in the Digital Age”, was to provide final year students, national service persons and alumni the opportunity to engage and network with industry professionals to explore career opportunities and be up to date with the dictates of innovative and sustainable careers in the digital age.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, who chaired the Fair, in his keynote address, stated that the Career Fair aligned with the University's vision to enhance student experience, particularly as the year 2025, was declared “the Year of the Students”.  He encouraged students to seize the opportunity and participate fully in the various segments of the programme which included CV reviews, mock interviews session and interactive/networking session with industry professionals and potential employers. Prof. Boakye applauded Management, the Office of Dean of Students’ Affairs, the Guidance & Counselling Unit and the Students Representative Council (SRC) for the collaboration.

The guest speaker, Ms. Benedicta Anita Mensah, the Manageress of Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cape Coast Chapter, expressed joy and support for the initiative, commending the University Management. She advised students to stay adaptable, curious and willing to take calculated risks in their future endeavours. She encouraged them to acquire digital skills in emerging technologies like AI and Data Science to thrive in the digital age and to prioritise sustainability in addressing environmental and social challenges. “The Ghana Chamber of Commerce plans to establish a Junior Chamber on campus to groom students” she said.

Mrs. Patricia Abena Kissi, the CEO of SEDAT Consult (a renowned human resource, business development and research consulting firm), who was the Lead HR Consultant for the Fair, emphasised the importance of equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to meet the demands of the evolving job market. She stated that both technical competence and soft skills were crucial for students to stand out in the competitive job market.“According to the Ghana Statistical Service, out of 60,000 graduates produced annually, only 6,000 get employed within the first year, raising questions about what sets the employed apart”, she stated. Mrs. Kissi stressed that in recent recruitment studies, technical know-how, soft skills and attitude determined career outcomes. She therefore advised participants to express ideas clearly and confidently, think critically, be adaptable and digitally literate in pursuing their careers.

Industry players such as the African Skills Hub, XL Management Service Ghana Ltd. and Youth Employment Agency (YEA), shared valuable insights on  topics such as creating effective curriculum vitae (CV), preparing for interviews,  personal branding, punctuality and integrity. Other industry partners who participated in the Fair included the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce, SEDAT Consult, Urban Roads, Vobiss Solution, Narcotic Control Board, State Insurance Company, House of Amaike, Qwakris Couture Training Institute, GT Bank, Food and Drugs Authority, Kasapreko Company Ltd., COA Group of Companies, My Own Trading Consult and Coconut Grove Hotels.

The Career Fair concluded with mock job interviews for students and national service persons, CV reviews, and interactive and exhibition sessions where students visited employers’ booths to seek employment opportunities and network with industry experts.

The participating industries were recognised and appreciated for their support. The event was deemed a success in educating and connecting students.
