Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) in Collaboration with Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) and Artisans Association of Ghana Organises Project Orientation Workshop

The Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) in collaboration with Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) and Artisans Association of Ghana (AAG) on Friday, October 13, 2023, had a Project Orientation Seminar on Skills Training for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of Building and Construction Craftsmen/Artisans in the Central Region. The training took place at the John Kofi Borsah Library Complex of the Cape Coast Technical University.

The Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) programme saw Artisans from five different fields namely; Carpenters, Plumbers, Mason/Tillers, Painters and Steel Benders mainly in the Cape Coast Metropolis.  The purpose of the workshop as stated by the Project Team Leader (Dr. Stephen Agyeifi-Mensah) was to interact with the Artisans regarding the training modules to be followed and the expected outcomes after the Training Programme. Again the interaction was to solicit their input regarding the date and time convenient for the commencement of the training. The Team Leader of the GSDF project indicated that at the end of the training, the artisans would be expected to properly read building drawings, prepare accurate estimates, exhibit professionalism in their dealings, be conscious of the importance of risk management, be ethical, be abreast with ICT, and have an entrepreneurial mindset in their dealings with clients. The programme as stated by the project team was expected to last for Eight (8) weeks.

A participant expressed their readiness to be part of the training to reshape their skills for now and the future.

Present at the Seminar were Prof. Samuel K. Ansah Chairman of the Workshop, the Project Team Leader (Dr. Stephen Agyefi-Mensah), the President, the Artisans Association of Ghana (Mr. Gideon Bidor) and representatives of the Artisans Association of Ghana. Also at the workshop were Alhaji Prof. Zakari Mustapha, Dean of School of Built and Natural Environment some members of the Department of Construction Technology Management. Mr. Gabriel Acquaah Hagan, Director of Works and Physical Development and other members of staff of the University.
