UNISA EYES PARTNERSHIP WITH CCTU FOR RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

The University of South Africa (UNISA) has expressed interest in collaborating with Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) to boost research and innovation in Ghana.

At the Council Chamber of the University, on October 17, 2024, Dr. M. Patrick Mubiayi, a Senior Lecturer at UNISA, presented an outline of a collaborative research plan with some faculty members of the School of Engineering, CCTU.

According to Dr. M. Patrick Mubiayi, the proposed collaboration between CCTU and UNISA aims to enhance international and intercontinental alliance, develop innovative research partnerships, jointly supervise student projects and work on multidisciplinary initiatives with the primary focus on sustainable materials for effective water treatment in Ghana and Africa.

Dr. Mubiayi in his presentation, expressed that, he expects the partnership to yield joint students recruitment opportunities, collaborative publications, grants opportunities and an enhanced technology development for rural areas in Ghana and Africa.

The Ag. Pro Vice Chancellor of CCTU, Prof. Lawrence Atepor - Dean of School of Engineering, who chaired the meeting, expressed gratitude for the visit and stressed that he sees the future partnership as a significant step towards enhancing the quality of research in engineering education to enrich faculty and students’ experience.

Meanwhile, the Director of International Programmes and Institutional Linkages, Dr. Ben Attom, in his remarks applauded the collaborative plan, and mentioned that a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be prepared for both parties to peruse before Dr. M. Patrick Mubiayi return to UNISA in November, 2024.  He also proposed a future collaboration with UNISA for CCTU's annual study abroad fair which was likely to happen soon.

Tornyeviadzi, Administrator, International Programmes & Institutional Linkages

The meeting concluded with optimism from both parties, anticipating a successful partnership.
