DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT

Introduction

The Department of Tourism Management, located within the School of Applied Arts (SAA), was established in October 2000 to run an HND programme in Tourism and Hospitality Studies. The Department offers various courses to prepare students to work in middle-level management positions in tourism, hospitality, service and other industries in the country.

Vision

The vision of the Department is to produce students who will be able to supervise or manage important positions in tourism, hospitality and other service businesses or establish their own businesses in these fields, thereby contributing to the economic and social development of the country.

Objectives

The objectives of the Department are to:

  • apply competency-based training in the field of Hospitality and Tourism in producing efficient, knowledgeable, skilled workers for the industry;
  • create an integrated and focused strategy to contribute to the effective development of Tourism and Hospitality Education and Training in the country;
  • enhance the successful development of the Tourism industry in Ghana;
  • fulfill the needs and expectations of the Tourism and Hospitality sector regarding the training of middle-level manpower; and,
  • enhance collaboration between the Technical University and industry, thereby helping to promote quality service delivery in the Tourism and Hospitality industry.

Graduates of the Department are qualified for self–employment or to be able to play significant roles in the governance and management of the Hospitality and Tourism Industry in Ghana and beyond. Graduates can aspire to occupy higher positions in tourism and hospitality in both government and private sector organisations, such as the Ministry of Tourism, Ghana Tourism Authority, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, Environmental Protection Agency, National Parks, Theme Parks, Tour and Travel Agencies, Information Centres, Convention Bureaus, Consultancies and Educational Institutions.
