CCTU COLLABORATES WITH CTVET TO PROVIDE COMPETENCY-BASED TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT TO STAFF

A five-day Competency-Based Training (CBT) workshop is underway at the Cape Coast Technical University’s Library Conference Room. The workshop is a collaboration between Cape Coast Technical University and the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).

The five-day workshop is meant to be a trainer-of-trainee such that all faculty members would be capacitated to develop programmes along the lines of CBT. The conversion of Ghana’s polytechnics into Technical Universities (TUs) according to Act 2016 (922) also came with huge responsibility of hands-on skills training to students in these Technical Universities. The curricula for such students should be delivered in the CBT mode ensuring that the learners gain mastery over the core competencies before continuing to the next level.

At the opening ceremony on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, underscored the need for CBT exercises to equip lecturers with the core competencies to train learners to fit into industry. This increases productivity as it ensures graduates’ suitability for the job in their chosen fields.

Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, therefore charged all the participants to take the workshop seriously since it was directly linked to the mandate of CCTU as a Technical University (TU).

On his part, the Lead Facilitator of the workshop, Mr. Michael Aboagye of CTVET advised all participants to be very active and that all must be involved during the practical sessions to master the processes and the procedures involved. He charged members to avoid forgetfulness by periodically going over everything they would cover within the period of the workshop.

Participants who were mainly, Lecturers of programmes converting to CBT, Lecturers from the Science and Engineering Faculties and the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance of the University would be taken through the TVET transformational system in Ghana, the CBT concept and package, the CBT program structure, assessment, and verification, among others for the five days, ending Saturday, 28, 2024.
