On April 25, 2023, Cape Coast Technical University had the pleasure of hosting a three member delegation from the VIVES University of Applied Sciences, Belgium. The team paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekyere and the Management of Cape Coast Technical University. The team were Dr. Johan Cottyn, Ms. Joke Calcoen and Mr. Tom Vanm Benerdeen. The Vice-Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University welcomed the team from the VIVES University as well as members present at the meeting.  

The main reason for the visit was to deepen an already existing relationship, (the Erasmus-plus Collaboration) between the VIVES University and the Department of Tourism (CCTU) and also to explore more potential avenues for collaboration in the areas of Applied Research, Business,  Building and Construction and others areas. They also spoke about possible exchange programme (Staff/Students) between the two universities.

The delegation from VIVES University informed the meeting on the various areas of expertise in the VIVES University. The leader of the team Dr. Johan Cottyn briefed the meeting on the history of the Vives University and how the name came about. He also enlightened the members on the various activities and programmes of the University vis-à-vis other collaborations with other sister universities in Ghana and Europe.

The Director of Open and Distance Learning, Mr. Michael Kissi presented a brief history of the Department of Tourism to the gathering, he said the Department gained accreditation on September 1, 1999 and their objective is to develop travel agents, tour guards and other important disciplines in the field of tourism. He had the pleasure to inform the gathering about the important strides of the Department as most of the tourist attractions in the Cape Coat Municipality had one of their products as the manager.

Both universities had a fruitful discussion and was hopeful that the visit will open more doors for more collaboration between the universities to promote the imagery of the two institutions worldwide.

The team as part of its ten (10) days visit to the Cape Coast Municipality was scheduled to visit some tourist attractions like the Cape Coast Castle, the Kakum National Park etc.

Present at the meeting were the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Atepor, Dr. Agyefi-Mensah, Dean of Graduate Studies, Mr. Michael Kissi, Director of Open and Distance Leaning, Dr. Benjamin Chris Ampimah, Director of International Affairs and Institutional Linkages, Head of Tourism Department, Mr. Ato Anaman. Also present were Mr. Franklin Dacosta, Dr. Richmond Yeboah, Ms. Jemimah Adjei-Attah, a Representative of the Directorate of Public Affairs and other members of staff.

The meeting was held at the Council Chamber of the Cape Coast Technical University.
