CAPE COAST TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY JOINS OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL ONE HEALTH DAY IN CAPE COAST, GHANA
The Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, participated in International One Health Day celebration, held at the Center for National Culture. The University was represented by some selected staff from the Directorate of Public Affairs.
The event, which was themed, “My Health, My Right," brought together stakeholders from various organizations to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices in addressing health challenges using the One Health approach (Human Health Animal Health and Environmental Health).
Mr. Gustav Atto, who spoke on behalf of the Central Regional Minister, stressed on the significance of keeping the environment safe, citing the recent cholera outbreak as a wake-up call.
A delegate from the Ghana Health Service highlighted the country's recent health challenges, including monkey pox, cholera, and influenza. She emphasized the need for a stronger collaboration between human, animal, and environmental sectors under the One Health concept.
Representatives from the various agencies like FAO, WHO, NADMO and EPA made various submissions. Afterwards, there was an open forum, where participants expressed their concerns on low sensitization campaign on environmental health and safety of humans and animals.
It thus was agreed that education systems would be put in place to educate the populace, ensuring environmental safety. Also, the traditional councils and Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) were admonished to collaborate and attend to these issues.
The event ended with a captivating performance by the cultural troupe and a photo session with dignitaries.
Present at the meeting were, representatives from the National Association for Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Food and Drug Authority (FDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Ghana Health Service (GHS), Traditional Council, Heads of Institutions, selected Educational Institutions, Security Services and the World Health Organization (WHO)
