CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES MEET CCTU MANAGEMENT: DEVELOPING THE PAN AFRICAN VIRTUAL COLLEGE

Management of the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), received a delegation from the California Community College System, United States of America (USA), on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the University’s Council Chamber.

The meeting was geared towards exploring potential educational partnerships for developing the Pan African Virtual College.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, in his welcome address, expressed appreciation for the visit. He touted the University’s ongoing initiatives and projects to enhance Competency Based Training (CBT) and emphasized the University’s commitment to ensuring the achievement of solutions for communities and nations through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).  

The representative of Dr. Sonya Christian, the Chancellor of the California Community College System, and delegates engaged the Management of CCTU on how both Institutions could work together to harness educational opportunities for knowledge exchange and other collaborations.

Dr. Christian expressed interest in both parties working together to foster innovative learning models that support global access to higher education, particularly through virtual learning initiatives.

The California Community College System is the largest system of post-secondary education in the USA, serving over 2.1 million students, and comprises 116 colleges and 75 community college districts across the State of California. The California Community College system is the most racially, ethnically, and economically diverse system of higher education in the USA. It transfers over 80,000 students annually to the University of California and California State University Systems. Moreover, the California Community College System provides comprehensive career and technical education opportunities to prepare students for direct entry into the world of work.

The all-important meeting concluded with optimism as both parties looked forward to formalizing the partnership. Present at the meeting were Dr. Anthony H. Turkson (Registrar), Dr. Ben Ebo Attom (Dean, International Programmes and Institutional Linkages), Mr. Kwabena Owusu (Director of Finance), Mr. Stephen A. Atianeere (Director of Internal Audit) and Dr. Augustine Aduko Alu (University Librarian).
