CCTU to Secure over 100 Acres of Land from Amissano Royals
19th, March 2026
The Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) as part of measures to boost agricultural production to feed the Ghanaian population, and to support the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, on Friday, March 13, 2026 held a meeting with the Chief of Amissano (a community in the catchment area of the University), Nana Egyir I and his Elders at the University’s Council Chamber.

The meeting was held to initiate processes towards the successful acquisition of land for the Feed Ghana Programme, a government's flagship initiative, designed to accelerate the transformation and modernization of the agricultural sector.
Dr. Anthony H. Turkson, the Registrar, on behalf of Management, welcomed the Chief and Elders of Amissano, and thanked them for the visit. He explained that the Government of Ghana, under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, had selected the University as one of the beneficiaries of the Feed Ghana Programme.

He noted that the Programme, apart from serving as a research field for students practical training and other academic projects of the Department of Food Science and Postharvest Technology, it would also create employment opportunities for the people of Amissano and the surrounding communities.
Dr. Turkson added that the initiative represented a significant milestone for the University and the nation’s agricultural transformation agenda.
Nana Egyir I and his elders welcomed the news and expressed their willingness to support the University with the acquisition land. They presented two available options to the University, a 150-acre parcel of land located at Simiw (a community in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of Central Region) and a 47-acre parcel of land at Efutu/Abura Abaasa (a community located within the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District of Central Region of Ghana).
Management showed strong interest in the 150-acre land at Simiw due to its suitability for the proposed Feed Ghana Programme. However, it was declared that the final decision on the preferred land would be communicated to Nana Egyir I and his elders after the University’s Finance Committee meeting.
The meeting concluded on a satisfactory note, with a presentation of token to the Chief by the Registrar, signifying more fruitful future engagements.
