Michael Mamford (Ph.D.), Honoured as the CCTU ‘Alumnus of the Week’: Episode 8

The episode eight (8) of the Cape Coast Technical University’s (CCTU) “Alumnus of the Week” saw Dr. Michael Manford honoured as the “Alumnus of the Week”. The weekly honour highlights alumni who have excelled in their fields and continue to embody the University’s values.

The Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of CCTU, Prof. Emmanuel Kwaw, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, presenting Dr. Michael Manford’s profile on Eagle FM 87.7MHz, commended his academic and professional journey, noting that his Higher National Diploma in Statistics from CCTU laid the foundation for further studies at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), graduating with a B.Sc. in Statistics (2013) and an M.Phil. in Statistics (2019).

Prof. Kwaw mentioned that Dr. Manford’s Master’s thesis, “A Study of Exponential Power Distribution”, earned the Dean’s Award of Excellence for its outstanding contribution to the field of statistics. In 2024, he completed his Ph.D. in Statistics at UCC with another award-winning thesis, “An Alternative Multivariate Exponential Power Distribution”, reaffirming his reputation as a researcher of distinction.

“Professionally, Dr. Manford has served CCTU with excellence. From 2013 to 2019, he worked as Planning Assistant and Senior Planning Assistant, contributing to institutional data management, analysis, and quality assurance. In 2019, he transitioned into academia as an Assistant Lecturer and now serves as a Lecturer, teaching courses in Mathematical Statistics, Time Series, Spatial Analysis, Statistical Programming, and Data Management. He is also actively involved in curriculum development and student mentorship”- the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor added.

Dr. Manford’s research portfolio was extensive, with publications in respected journals such as Communications in Statistics Theory and Methods. His work spanned diverse applications of statistics in health, energy, business and education, solidifying his place as a thought leader in the discipline.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Manford played key leadership roles in the statistical community. He currently serves as the Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Statistical Association, where he coordinates activities and engages with stakeholders. Through his journey from a diploma student at CCTU to an award-winning Ph.D. holder, Dr. Michael Manford exemplified the excellence and impact of Cape Coast Technical University alumni.

Dr. Michael Manford, in his acceptance remarks, expressed gratitude to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, University Management and staff, and urged students to remain focused and work hard to contribute to the University’s vision.

The “Alumnus of the Week” is one of several initiatives introduced by Management, the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the Directorate of Public Affairs and the 40th Anniversary Planning Committee to celebrate excellence.
