Entry Requirements

Certificate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Admission into the Certificate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering programme is open to applicants who satisfy any of the following requirements:

1. Applicants with the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Applicants must possess passes (A1–E8) in five (5) subjects, including:

  • English Language
  • Core Mathematics
  • Integrated Science
  • Any two (2) other subjects

2. Applicants with the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)

Applicants must possess passes (A–E) in five (5) subjects, including:

  • English Language
  • Core Mathematics
  • Integrated Science
  • Any two (2) other subjects

3. Applicants with the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level

Applicants must have passes in five (5) subjects, including:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Any two (2) other subjects

4. Mature and Technical/Vocational Applicants

Applicants must be at least twenty (20) years of age and possess any of the following qualifications:

  • Middle School Leaving Certificate (MSLC)
  • National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) Certificate
  • Technician Part I or Technician Part II Certificate
  • Basic Education Certificate (BEC) or Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)
  • City & Guilds Certificate
  • Technical or Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Certificate
  • Electrical Installation Certificate
  • Electronics Servicing Certificate
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the University.

Applicants admitted under this category may be required to pass an interview and/or an aptitude test conducted by the Department to determine their suitability for the programme.

General Requirement

Preference will be given to applicants with a background or demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Electrical Installation, Renewable Energy, Automation, Instrumentation, or related technical disciplines. However, applicants from other educational backgrounds who satisfy the minimum admission requirements and demonstrate the aptitude to undertake the programme are also encouraged to apply.

This entry requirement is appropriate for a Certificate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and is consistent with admission requirements commonly adopted by universities and technical institutions offering engineering certificate programmes.
