UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI VISIT CCTU: DEVELOPING A UNIVERSITY WIDE INNOVATION HUB

Management of the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) received a delegation from the the University of Cincinnati (UC), United States of America (USA), on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the University’s Council Chamber.

The meeting was geared towards exploring potential educational partnerships towards the development of a University-wide Innovation Hub.

Prof. Ben Ebo Attom, the Dean of International Programmes and Institutional Linkages, shared a short prayer to begin  the meeting, followed by an introduction of the CCTU team to the UC team.

Pro-Vice Chancellor of CCTU, Prof. Emmanuel Kwaw, in his welcome address, expressed appreciation for the visit. He touted the CCTU’s ongoing initiatives and collaborations to enhance Competency Based Training (CBT). He emphasised the need for universities to collaborate in the training of the 21st century graduates. He also remarked that, “We’ve recently collaborated with the University of South Africa (UNISA) to find solutions to purify polluted water bodies in the country as a result of the galamsey menace.”

Dr. Raj Mehta, Vice Provost from the University of Cincinnati, expressed his team’s appreciation for the warm reception and highlighted the importance of building partnerships, especially in science and innovation.

Dr. Kwame Anane Fenin, the Director of Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (EDIC), CCTU and Prof. Eugene Owusu Acheampong, the Dean of the School of Business and Management Studies, CCTU, presented on a ‘University-wide Innovation Hub for CCTU’, citing the 1819 Innovation Hub of the University of Cincinnati – a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, that inspires the next generation of leading innovators.

Dean, Professor of Chemistry, Dr. James Mack also discussed innovation, mindset change, and the need to promote practical solutions to current challenges. Dr. Mack expressed interest in knowing the best ways UC and CCTU could collaborate to enhance innovation and research.

Discussions focused on creation of collaboration opportunities, including staff and students exchange programmes, scholarships, and joint research initiatives. Both Institutions expressed willingness to work together to achieve shared goals, and were fully committed to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The meeting ended successfully with the exchange of tokens and remarks from representatives of both universities. Photographs were also taken right away.
