CCTU WELCOMES 2024/2025 FRESHERS WITH COMPREHENSIVE ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for its students, with a comprehensive 3-day orientation program designed specifically for fresh students. The programme, which took place from January 22nd to 24th, 2025, brought together newly admitted students, faculty members, and university administrators, to ensure a smooth transition into university life.

The programme started with a welcome address from Mr. Benjamin Adu Mensah, Director of Academic Affairs, who stood in for the Registrar, Dr. Anthony H. Turkson. In his remarks, Mr. Adu Mensah emphasized the importance of the orientation program in helping fresh students settle into university life. He noted that the programme was designed to provide essential information about the University's policies, procedures, and facilities, with the ultimate goal of ensuring a successful and enjoyable academic journey.

Professor Sophia Padi Ocran, the Dean of Students Affairs, also addressed the fresh students, highlighting the University's commitment to shaping skills and transforming futures. She encouraged students to embrace extra-curricular activities and strive for academic excellence, in order to take advantage of the scholarship opportunities available to deserving students.

Professor Ocran, also outlined four key principles that students should adhere to in order to have a pleasant stay on campus: making themselves available for activities aimed at polishing their potential, manufacturing opportunities for themselves, managing time effectively, and maximizing available resources for growth.

Professor Ocran further warned students against destructive habits such as casual sex and drug abuse and advised them to be mindful of their social media usage. She emphasized the importance of maintaining good relationships with peers and faculty members, and encouraged students to seek help and support when needed.

As part of the orientation programme, the Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Benjamin Mensah, made a presentation on the functions of the directorate. He explained the role of the Academic Affairs Directorate in promoting academic excellence, supporting student success, and fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. He highlighted his Directorate's efforts to develop and implement academic programmes that meet the needs of students and the demands of the job market.

Mr. Mensah also emphasized the importance of academic advising and mentoring in supporting student success. He noted that every student deserves personalized attention and support, and that the University's academic counselors and mentors are committed to helping students navigate the academic landscape and achieve their goals.

The programme also featured presentations from various directorates, schools, departments and the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University.  The Counseling Unit of the University, in their presentation emphasized the importance of seeking academic counseling from professionals at their office. While the University Health Service provided information on the medical services available to students. The Security Section, under the Directorate of Legal, Consular and General Services, highlighted the security measures in place to ensure the safety of students and their items on the University campus.

The 3-day orientation program was a resounding success, which provided fresh students with a comprehensive introduction to the University Life. It also included interactive sessions, campus tours and social events designed to help fresh students get acquainted with their peers and faculty members.
