Cape Coast Technical University Honours Engr. Dr. Ernestina Mawushie Amewornu as the Distinguished Alumna of the Week.

The Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, recognised one of its outstanding Alumna for her sterling achievements. Engr. Dr. Ernestina Mawushie Amewornu was named the “CCTU Alumna of the Week”.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, presenting her profile on the University’s radio station Eagle 87.7MhzFM, praised Engr. Dr. Amewornu's academic and professional accomplishments highlighting her dedication to advancing engineering education and research.

Engr. Dr. Amewornu's journey began at CCTU, where she obtained a Higher National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. This paved way for her to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electronics and Communication Engineering at All Nations University. She further obtained a Master's Degree in Telecommunications Management from HAN University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, and later earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She is also a proud member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-Ghana).

Engr. Dr. Amewornu is the current Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership. Prior to this appointment, she was the Acting Head of the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering from 2024 to 2025. She has also served the University in the capacity of Head of Department of Renewable Energy Technology between 2023 and 2024, and Dean of the School of Engineering from 2016 to 2018. By virtue of her capacity as the Most Senior Dean in 2017, she acted as Vice-Chancellor of the University, in the absence of the substantive Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor. She was also the Head of Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering from 2015 to 2016.

She has provided services to both Statutory and Non-statutory committees of the University. In 2024, as Chairperson of an Energy Conservation Committee of the University, she presented a report on Energy Consumption of CCTU and proposed alternative strategies to reduce energy consumption and expenditure on electric energy. She also presented a Proposal for the Establishment of the School of Energy and Sustainable Development, on behalf Committee. Between 2016 and 2018, she was a member of CCTU Congregation Committee, the Staff Development Committee, and the Finance Subcommittee.

Engr. Dr. Ernestina Mawushie Amewornu expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, University Management, the Directorate of Public Affairs, staff, students and alumni for the recognition.

The Alumnus of the Week Segment is part of the activities introduced by CCTU Management and the Directorate of Public Affairs as part of the 40th Anniversary Celebration to honour and project the accomplishment of hardworking alumni live on-air, to inspire other members of the University and the Alumni community.
