2026 Alumni of the Week: Engineer Ben Debrah, unveiled in Episode 1

On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the studios of Eagle 87.7 MHz, Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), Engineer Ben Debrah was recognised as the distinguished “Alumnus of the Week”. It was a proud moment when the National Alumni President of CCTU, Dr. Richmond Y. Yeboah, read his profile.

According to Dr. Yeboah, Engr. Ben Debrah began his tertiary education at the Cape Coast Technical University, where he earned a Higher National Diploma (Building Technology) in 2002 and later pursued a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management at Kaaf University in 2012. He also holds a Master of Science in Project Management from KNUST (2019).

“With over 22 years of substantial experience within the Local Government Service, Engr. Debrah has effectively served as an Engineer and the Head of Works in various municipalities, including West Akim Municipal Assembly, Suhum Municipal Assembly, Kwahu Afram Plains South Municipal Assembly, and La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly. Currently, he is the Head of Works for the Tema West Municipal Assembly”, Dr. Richmond Y. Yeboah noted. 

Engr. Ben Debrah is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-Gh). His leadership extends beyond professional duties, as he has also held significant positions in student associations and local community organisations such as: National President of the Local Government Service Engineers Association, Ghana; a member of the Disciplinary, Legal, and Ethics Committee at the Engineering Council; a member of the IET-Gh Programmes and Conferences Committee; and a Chairman of the Projects & Development Committee at St. Bakhita Catholic Church, Koforidua.

He has participated in numerous local and international conferences, including the World Conference on Urban Planning and City Management in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the Global Sustainable Built Environment Research Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has also delivered impactful speeches at key forums, emphasising topics on engineering, urban planning, and economic development.

Engr. Debrah’s contributions to the field of Engineering and the community have been recognised with numerous awards and accolades, including the African Ambassador for Infrastructure Development and Engineering Excellence (2025), the Titans Award for Personality of Great Impact (2025), and the Engineering Executive Award (2025).

As President of the Local Government Service Engineers Association, Engr. Debrah has successfully initiated several partnerships and collaborations aimed at enhancing members' capabilities. Some initiatives include partnerships with the Chartered Institute of Realtors and Reaco International for training programmes and collaborating with the Engineering Council and IET-Gh to enforce engineering regulations and facilitate professional development.

Following his introduction, Engr. Debrah expressed heartfelt appreciation for being recognised as the “Alumnus of the Week”.  He described the honour as both humbling and inspiring, noting that it had strengthened his commitment to continuous growth and service.

He encouraged the public to be empathic in community service to experience the desired outcome. “At least 22 years in the Local Government Sector, I have learnt that community service requires empathy to make an impact,” he noted.  

Engr. Ben Debrah concluded by encouraging the youth to stay focused and pursue excellence in their endeavours, quoting that, “chase excellence and money will follow you”. He explained that whatever goal one sets in life could be achieved through determination and hard work.

The “Alumni of the Week” initiative is a weekly programme introduced by the Directorate of Public Affairs, CCTU, in 2025, to honour and celebrate the accomplishments of hardworking alumni.
