CCTU UNVEILS ENGR. SAMUEL GARRIBA, AS THE ALUMNUS OF THE WEEK IN EPISODE 10
Mr. Alexander K. Azameti, the Director of Public Affairs at Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), officially recognised Engineer (Engr.) Samuel Garriba as the “Alumnus of the Week” on episode 10 of the weekly broadcast on Eagle FM 87.7 MHz. The initiative aims to honour CCTU alumni who have excelled in their careers and continue to embody the University’s core values as part of its 40th Anniversary Celebration.

“Engr. Samuel Garriba’s education began with Mechanical Engineering Craft Practice at Cape Coast Technical Institute from 1998 to 2000, followed by Mechanical Engineering Technicians qualifications, MET I in 2001 and MET II in 2002. He pursued a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (2002-2005) and a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering (2011-2013), both at the Cape Coast Technical University. Through his hard work and perseverance, Engr. Garibay obtained a Master of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Education, Kumasi Campus in 2015 and has successfully defended his PhD (Mechanical Engineering) thesis at B. S. A. Crescent Institute of Science and Technology in India”, Mr. Alexander K. Azameti stated.
Engr. Samuel Garriba serves as a Mechanical Engineering educator and scholar at Cape Coast Technical University, where he specialises in Production Engineering. With more than ten (10) years of teaching experience and an impressive research background, he has been recognised in the field of Engineering.
“He was employed as a cleaner in 1995 at CCTU, then Cape Coast Polytechnic, and became an Assistant Technician in 2001. He was promoted to the rank of Technician in 2005 and Senior Technician in 2008. Subsequently, Engr. Garriba was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer in 2014 and a Lecturer since 2022”, noted Mr. Azameti.


His scholarly work centers on the examination of natural fibers and polymer composites made from them. His research output includes publications in peer-reviewed international journals. He teaches various academic programmes from Bachelor of Technology to Higher National Diplomas and other Diploma courses in Mechanical Engineering. He has supervised numerous students’ projects, particularly in areas such as Engineering Innovations and the Characterisation of Natural Fibers and their Composites.
At Cape Coast Technical University, Engr. Garriba has held several leadership positions, such as Assistant Technical Manager at the Welding and Machining Sections of AVIC Laboratory and Mechanical Engineering Workshop Coordinator. He also served as Non-Tertiary Programmes Coordinator, a member of various committees such as the Interim Welfare Committee, Workshop Restructuring Committee, and Curriculum Development Committee.

Internationally, Engr. Garriba represented CCTU at a Ghana Petroleum Commission training programme in Canada, and he is a certified CBT Facilitator. Engr. Garriba is known for his integrity, creativity, and dedication to community service. He has maintained a Professional Membership with the Ghana Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET-GH) since 2021. He is successfully married and balances his profession with commitments to family and faith.
In his remarks, Mr. Alexander K. Azameti commended Engr. Samuel Garriba for his unwavering dedication to education and his remarkable decision to serve his alma mater, a gesture he described as admirable and worthy of emulation.
During the interview, Engr. Samuel Garriba expressed his deep gratitude for being recognised by his alma mater, mentioning that he had not expected such an honour. He emphasised his passion for mentoring young people, providing them with the knowledge and skills to address real-world challenges in Mechanical and Production Engineering. As a District Pastor and member of the Marriage Committee at Deeper Life Bible Church, he encouraged the youth to trust God, stay committed, and work hard to achieve their goals.
Through his dedication to education, research, and community service, Engr. Samuel Garriba continues to serve as an inspiring example for students, staff, and the broader national community.
