CCTU’s School of Applied Sciences and Technology Receives Donation of Clinical Microscopes to Enhance Teaching, Learning and Research
The Department of Food Science and Postharvest Technology under School of Applied Sciences and Technology (SAST), Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) has received essential new laboratory equipment, including fourteen (14) high-quality microscopes and books, from Dr. Daniel Annan of Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK.

Prof. Maurice Tibiru Apaliya from the Department of Food Science and Postharvest Technology, and Director of the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, CCTU donated on behalf of Dr. Daniel Annan.
Dr. Annan, has been a long-standing colleague and collaborator of the Department, engaging closely in research and teaching initiatives. “During his visit to CCTU last year, he observed that the Department needed certain essential laboratory equipment. In response, he took the initiative to procure and donate these valuable items”- Prof. Apaliya hinted.

Prof. Apaliya highlighted that the newly donated equipment would significantly enhance research activities within the Department, particularly as the student population continued to grow annually. He emphasised that the essential new laboratory equipment would not only benefit the Department of Food Science and Postharvest Technology but would also serve students and researchers in other departments, as well as contribute to the operations of the University Clinic. He however, called for others to support the University's growth.
Receiving the microscopes, Prof. Emmanuel Kwaw, the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, expressed his appreciation to Dr. Daniel Annan of Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, for his generous support and commitment to advancing quality education at CCTU. He stressed that the microscopes would be used effectively and maintained properly to ensure their longevity and impact.




The donation aims to provide students with practical tools to improve their understanding of scientific concepts and enhance hands-on training in laboratory work. The recent donation marks the second, within two years, from Dr. Daniel Annan. A testament to his enduring commitment to academic development and excellence.
