School of Graduate Studies, CCTU Hosts Loughborough University Professor for Second Lecture Series

The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) of Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) hosted Prof. Martin Morgan of Loughborough University, United Kingdom, for the second edition of its Lecture Series.

Held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the J. K. Borsah Library Conference Hall, the Lecture brought together staff, students and other participants to explore contemporary research methods and their practical applications.

Prof. Morgan, a Professor of Operations and Project Management and Director of Academic Staffing at Loughborough University, shared insights into three (3) research approaches: Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA), Triple Dividend Resilience  (TDR), and Critical Incident Technique (CIT).

Addressing participants, Prof. Morgan explained that NCA focused on identifying conditions that must be present for a particular outcome to occur. He said the approach enabled researchers and project managers to identify critical factors, including adequate funding and stakeholder support, to strengthen risk management and decision-making.

On TDR, Prof. Morgan said the framework evaluated projects beyond risk reduction by examining three (3) key benefits: avoided losses when disasters occurred;  economic gains even when disasters did not occur; and additional environmental and social benefits such as job creation, cleaner air and improved infrastructure.

He also highlighted  CIT which helped researchers identify specific behaviours and experiences that contributed to success or failure. He encouraged researchers to adopt open-ended questions to elicit deeper and more meaningful responses from participants.

In his welcome address, the Dean of SGS, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Bamfo-Agyei, expressed appreciation to Prof. Morgan and previous officers of the School for their support. He also announced that SGS had received approval to introduce ten (10) additional programmes to its existing portfolio in the next academic year.

Prof. Bamfo Agyei urged participants to actively engage in the lecture and translate the knowledge acquired into practical outcomes.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Stephen Agyefi-Mensah, School of Built and Natural Environment, CCTU  commended the facilitators and participants, describing the lecture as insightful. He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to addressing pressing challenges in Ghana and beyond.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session and a group photograph.
