Institutional Tour – Day 3: CCTU Pays Courtesy Call on the Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Prisons Service

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, paid a working visit to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Ghana Prisons Service, marking day-3 of its institutional tour. The visit was to explore collaborative opportunities as part of its efforts to strengthen institutional relationships.

The first stop was at the Central Regional Headquarters of the GNFS. ACFO Merinder Mary Attigah-Mensah, Regional Commander, welcomed the Team and introduced key officers of the Command. They included Divisional Officer I (DOI), Samuel Sagoe, Regional Operations Officer; DOI Andrew Kuunoor, Regional Auditor; DOI Mustapha Nyarko Hammah, Regional Safety Officer; DOI Eric Forson, Regional Substation Officer; DOII Thomas Asare, Regional Administrator; DOIII Ebenezer Fiifi Dadzie, Deputy Regional PRO; DOIII Getrude Opoku, Deputy Regional Administrator; Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADOI) Shaiba Azonko, Regional Accountant; ADOI Pearl Macsimpeney, In-charge Regional Control; and ADOII David Abeiku Bonney, Regional PR Department.

ACFO Merinder Mary Attigah-Mensah expressed delight about the visit and emphasised that the Service was committed to ensuring safer communities throughout the Central Region through the containment of fire and the reduction of fire-related accidents and deaths.

In his remarks, Prof. Boakye thanked the GNFS Team for the reception and hinted at possible areas of collaboration that would contribute to sustainable development at the local and national level.

At the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison, the Deputy Director of Prison (DDP), the Central Regional Commander, and the Officer in Charge (OIC) of Ankaful Maximum Security Prison, Joseph Asabere received the CCTU Team, and introduced key officers of the Command. They included, the

Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Ibrahim Yakubu Abugrago, Second in Command, Ankaful Maximum Security Prison; Supt. David Batule Koffie, Public Relations Officer; and ASP Emmanuel Kwarteng, Staff Officer.

DDP Joseph Asabere highlighted the Service’s mandate of maintaining an efficient, humane, and safe reformatory penal system in Ghana. He was also quick to add that the Command was ready to collaborate with the University in any life-transforming endeavour.

The Vice-Chancellor, in his address, applauded the Central Regional Prisons Command for the warm reception. He expressed the University’s willingness to partner with the Ghana Prisons Service in the training of staff and in offering opportunities to inmates to develop their skills through Vocational and Technical skills, and formal education at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison under strict regulation.

The institutional tour day-3 came to a satisfactory conclusion with both parties acknowledging the need for collaboration to address local challenges and advance the national development agenda.
