Mr. Alhassan Mumuni (Senior Lecturer) Head of Department

MSc. Electrical Engineering

Currently, the Department offers four specialized options namely:

  • Power Supply and Distribution,
  • Computer Operating Systems/ Digital Computer Design
  • Telecommunication
  • Instrumentation and Control

 VISION  

The vision of the Department is to produce graduates who will be capable of designing and maintaining power systems, carrying out electrical installation, motor rewinding and installation services, trouble shooting and fault diagnosis, as well as computer programming.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the Department is at training students to qualify as engineers and technicians to improve the middle level labour force in industries.

The Department expects that after successful completion of programs, students will; acquire knowledge and understanding of the concepts and principles of electricity and electronics; acquire the techniques in the use of tools and equipment; apply their knowledge in the correct use of electricity to promote safe working procedures and safety precautions; develop skills in the use of appropriate tools and electronics instruments in measurement, trouble–shooting and repairs; acquire the ability to prepare layout, install and commission industrial equipment and offer electrical services; meet the present demands of creating and using software in every aspect needed in the field; and acquire knowledge in the generation, transmission and reception of telecommunication signals.

SERVICE TO NATION/COMMUNITY

The Department assist second cycle schools to have their practical works at its laboratories.

FUTURE PLANS

  • Preparations are ongoing to run B.Tech (Electrical/Electronic Engineering).
  • The Department is in the process of acquiring equipment to enable it run Medical Equipment Technology (an option in the HND programme).
  • An MOU signed between the Polytechnic and KERSL has paved the way for the commencement of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) programming course during vacations.
